BREAKING NEWS: (Nov 2013)

New strides in nanotechnology have the medical community very excited! Due to the successful testing of BioNano’s new atomic sized nanobots, doctors hope to attempt the first cellular regeneration of its kind.

BREAKING NEWS:

We are reporting live, up to the minute coverage of the nanobot invasion. Within just a few days the entire eastern seaboard will be affected unless we figure out how to stop them. The issue is that at the rate people are falling to this, all of the scientists with the knowledge to fix them will be overtaken before they have a chance. Please remain indoors if possible, but remember that exposure does not stop with people. These nanobots work on a molecular level. Everything they come in contact with: people, animals, buildings, even water can become a carrier.

Five Things You May Not Have Known About The Electric Series by Casey Harvell

  • Where the idea began: I love zombies. I see everything zombie as a form of therapy because they terrify me. (I had nightmares for months after watching 28 Days Later.) I really wanted to write an apocalypse. Something terrifying that could rival the chaos and fear of a zombie apocalypse. But where to begin? I started Googling and discovered the Grey-Goo Theory. Thus the nanobot apocalypse was formed.

  • It’s all part of the groove: A large part of my writing involves music. The Electric Series is made possible mainly by Imagine Dragons, The Fray and The Artic Monkeys.

  • A secret: Another large factor in the beginning of The Electric Series (Charged) is a vague fan fiction to The Hollows Series by Amanda Hocking (my favorite series EVER!)

  • Where’d B come from? In The Hollows Series Remy has a kickass female lion named Ripley. She’s badass. B’s small yet but give him a bit to catch his bearings. As for the name? B’s been shortened for “Baby Bear” (Charged) but is also the nickname for my neighbor’s turtle because he’s awesome.

  • Lastly: Wired will be the final installment of The Electric Series and will be out sometime this coming winter.

5-STAR REVIEWS

Revolution Meets The Walking Dead!

If anyone has ever watched the TV series Revolution then this was the first thing that sprang to mind when I started reading this book. You have the nano-bots designed to heal people that get out of control, only this time instead of turning out the power it creates a nano-bot fog cloud that infects those that come into contact with it.The only line of defence that is out there is a 17year old girl, Kat, who after suffering from an electric shock that should have cost her her life is now in possession on a power which enables her to shoot out electrical spheres. Hold back the sense of disbelief that I don't doubt that you will have upon reading this very general statement of what the book contains, I was reserved at first what with my likening it to Revolution but upon getting further into the story was pleasantly surprised and ended up really enjoying the story.Think The Walking Dead crossed with Revolution with a smattering of romance thrown in for good measure and you would have a fairly accurate idea of how the story goes but with a YA feel. Please note that I was provided with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review, however you will note that I had already purchased the book myself prior to receiving the copy!!

APOCALYPSE SOON

If a picture is worth a thousand words to many people, then a fiction book is worth a gazillion sci-tech explanations to me. Nanobots? I've read about nano technology but just haven't been able to get my mind wrapped around it. I'm still struggling with the concept of a 3-D printer (can they REALLY make a wrench?). But Casey Harvell has the gift of writing with clarity and her explanation of the atomic-sized bots is finally understandable. The novel is a page-turner and I couldn't put it down; my husband made his own dinner and I ate peanut butter crackers. After getting to know and like these somewhat typical high school students, the action increases until the world is hardly recognizable to them or us. Throwing one's characters into an apocalyptic situation is an excellent way to develop them and Harvell certainly handles the transition in a fine and believable manner. If you have any interest in the genres of Teen, Young Adult, Science Fiction or Romance, this will be the perfect read!

USA Today Says:

Why you should read it: Welcome to The Electric Series with Charged: Reboot (book one) and Shocked (book two) by Casey Harvell. This Young Adult tale of adventure, friendship and romance starts on a gradual climb toward an apocalyptic disaster. Once the ball starts rolling, the pace maintains at a steady clip with bad guys coming after the good guys — fun and suspenseful with a young heroine, Kat, who is ready to lead the way to survival.

The books are not really stand-alone stories. A quick summary at the beginning of Shocked will get the reader to the launch point for the story’s continuation. With this unique premise of nanobot technology gone awry, it’s easy to get excited about what comes next. Stay tuned.
